Naturopath & Holistic Healing Services

I currently reside in Spearfish, SD, and I honor the original stewards of the Black Hills, or Paha Sapa — the Lakota Oyate. May the work I do here be a blessing not only to those I serve, but also to the land and the ancestors who have nurtured it.

This is a space where you can receive safe, informed, compassionate, and empowering support whether in my office, a virtual session (video call), a wellness workshop, or on a healing hike in nature. I serve clients locally in Spearfish, Rapid City, Sturgis, Sioux Falls, Gillette, Belle Fourche, and also offer virtual sessions nationwide and internationally.

I am currently accepting new clients. My offerings include 1:1 holistic wellness coaching & guidance, spiritual support & healing sessions, energy work, ancestral healing, as well as group classes and workshops in areas like plant & herbal walks, women’s wellness, chakras, somatic movement & dance, nutrition, lifestyle wellness, & full moon ceremony. My office is located in the Calming Wave Wellness Center, 720 N 5th Street, Spearfish, SD 57783.

Restoring Balance & Wholeness

The support I offer is holistic, eclectic, diverse, and centered to the person I am serving. It is designed to bring restoration to body, mind, and spirit. Healing considers all aspects of your life, including physical, emotional, energetic, spiritual, environmental, occupational, communal, and societal wellness. Together, we remove obstacles, address root causes, and reconnect you with the innate wisdom of your body and spirit.

In my 15+ years of experience, healing is never one-size-fits-all.  The approach is unique to the person whom I work with.  The framework is intelligent, participatory, respectful, compassionate, enlightening and takes into consideration the whole being, rather than just a health issue at hand.

Herbal Education Walks, Outings & Experiences

Sarah Sue offers unique Herbal Education Walks, outings, and experiences in the field—whether in the forest, on a trail, or in your own backyard. She finds great joy in teaching plant education outside of the traditional classroom setting, introducing you to the natural world, and sharing her passion for plants.

These herbal education outings include:
Plant Identification: Learn the basics of identifying local plants.
Herbal Education: Discover the supportive properties of plants and their uses.
Sustainable Wildcrafting: Understand sustainable harvesting practices to protect nature’s resources.
Herbal Preparation Making: Learn how to process and make plant-based herbal preparations.
Energetic Qualities: Explore the energetics of plants and connect deeply with their supportive qualities.
Storytelling & Connection: Learn the stories and folklore behind plant allies, and foster a deeper connection with the land.

Sarah Sue has led herb walks for over 10 years, guiding individuals and groups of all levels to connect with their plant neighbors and develop a profound relationship with nature. Whether in the hills or your own backyard, private 1:1 or group herbal walks can be scheduled.

All ages and abilities are welcome, and the experience can be tailored to suit any level of knowledge or interest. Step outside, connect with nature, and learn from a seasoned guide who truly loves the plants and their supportive gifts.

Somatic Movement, Embodiment & Dance

Emotions, memories, and past events are often stored in the body—manifesting in physical tension, trauma, or emotional blockages. Somatic Movement, embodiment, and dance therapy provide powerful tools for releasing what no longer serves you. Sarah Sue integrates these methods, along with energy work, qigong, family constellations, soul work, and mind-body practices, to help release stored emotions and promote wellness.

Emotion, from the Latin "to move," was never meant to remain trapped in the body. When emotions are stuck, the body carries them. Returning to the body is a profound act of healing. Somatic practices help you move intentionally, using creativity, expression, and play to release old patterns, reconnect with your body’s wisdom, and embrace a renewed sense of vitality.

Sessions typically begin with intention setting, followed by grounding, a guided warm-up, and a somatic release and dance practice. Dance is not just performance; it is art, ritual, prayer, and a tool for healing and empowerment.

Each session is a celebration of the body as a sacred temple, fostering deeper connection to self and spirit through movement.

“Healing Hikes”

Being out in nature is calming and easing to the mind, body & soul, helping us to get to the heart and spirit of the matter. This is a special outing into nature, where healing intentions and desires are set. We then enter into the healing space & apothecary of Mother nature. Each session is unique and guided by intuition, intention, & what is available in our surroundings. There can be identification & education of plants, exploration, sitting, listening, connecting to the spirit of the land, the living beings of the land, working with the other elements of nature ~ water, rocks, stones, animal teachers ~ and creating space for energy work, ceremony, art, writing, dance, song, and more.

Birthing Services - “Doula” comes from Greek, meaning “one who serves.”

I serve those in a powerful rite of passage into parenthood. It is a sacred service and honor to do this work. Aside from serving or attending one in labor, I also offer support leading up to birth, including nutrition, mental & emotional support, birthing classes and family constellation work that helps address, clear and heal any past family trauma. As a mother myself, I also understand how deeply we need postpartum care. It is a community effort. My doula support extends to the postpartum experience, including supporting the body’s healing, processing the birth, energy work, and supporting the process of transformation into motherhood. It also includes those who serve in the wake of loss ~ abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death.

I teach birthing classes to help prepare birthing bodies for the rite of passage into parenthood, focusing on the birthing process as well as postpartum care and early parenthood wisdom and lessons. These classes are especially helpful to first-time parents.

Contact me if you are interested in receiving birthing support or attending one of my birthing classes.

"Sarah Sue is an incredible healer, teacher, and guide to connecting soul, mind and body. This was very clear in how she taught her birthing class series which helped me as a first time mom and trauma survivor to feel safe, calm, and prepared for the arrival of my daughter. The information was invaluable. The way it was shared helped me and my partner to trust ourselves and receive the guidance we needed to build our foundation as parents.

I am extremely grateful to have had this experience attending her birthing classes and having her as my doula, and would highly recommend Sarah Sue to anyone seeking a doula and/or the birthing class she teaches."

How are Naturopathic doctors (ND) trained differently from a conventional doctors (MD)?

Naturopathic Doctors (ND) are trained as holistic primary care physicians with a unique skill set, philosophy, and approach. Like MDs, they attend a 4-year graduate level medical school, with similar core basic sciences, body system sciences (ex. cardiology), and certified board exams. However, NDs also get extensive training in nutrition, herbal medicine, physical medicine, nature cure, counseling, homeopathy, and other holistic medicines and arts. NDs also have a unique philosophy in how they treat patients including do no harm, treat the person and not the symptoms, teach (docere means “to teach” in Latin), stimulate the body’s innate healing force (the Vis), and prioritizing prevention of illness before it happens.

NDs understand that the body has complex and intelligent systems in place to return to wellness and balance. Sometimes, there are obstacles to these processes.
